iPass Card is the Must-have Gadget during Kaohsiung Trip

If you plan to rely on public transportation when travelling in Kaohsiung, the first thing I will suggest you to prepare is the i-Pass card. It is mainly used for city bus, metro and train like Oyster card in London, Octopus card in Hong Kong, Suica in Tokyo, and Easycard in Taipei.

Different designs of iPass card

Convenience is the first reason to get iPass card on hand. In addition to transportation ticket, the card can be used as debit card in designated shops like the 4 main convenience stores including 7-11 and FamilyMart, some popular local shops and even cinema. Users can enjoy the discount occasionally when easily swiping the card in those specific stores.

For those who like to experience the city by taking the city bus, the iPass card is the must-have. From now on, there is a daily price cap for city bus passengers using iPass card. Compared with other international cities, the bus fare in Kaohsiung has been quite cheap: NTD12 for an adult (USD 0.4, GBP 0.3). Passengers can get the third route for free when using the iPass card within a day. It means you can take the bus as you like by only spending NTD24 one day! Be aware the nice offer is only available for city bus, while metro and other shuttle bus are not included. For shuttle buses, there is another discount. Passengers will only be charged NTD 60 for the fare over NTD 60. Same, some routes like ChiMei express bus (旗美快捷) are not included.

The iPass card is easily to buy from the convenient stores and every metro stations in Kaohsiung. It takes NTD100 for one card without a deposit. Before using it, remember to top it up in where you purchase.
